Great Northern Loon

The Great Northern Loon (Common loon / Svartnäbbad islom / Gavia immer) is a rare visitor in Sweden and normally we see them at great distance far out in the sea. When a loon in summer plumage turned up in a lake, I had to pay it a couple of visits – even if it was quite a long drive form home. I got two short encounters – one in rain and one in morning light before it swam out from the shore and flew away to the north. I am glad to have experienced this magnificent loon in my own backyard. The pictures didn´t turn out that great, but maybe good enough to show anyhow 🙂
